The Militia -> Basic -> Advanced -> Prototype advancement model in DUST is known as tiers. EVE Online had tiers, but the developers noted that it caused many ships in lower tiers to be passed over for better ships in higher tiers. This caused problems and CCP just redid all of their ships in EVE to get rid of tiers (this was called "Tiericide" by the EVE community). I feel that DUST needs to go through its own "Tiericide" so that suits provide several flavors and choices instead of the "Straight to Proto" we have now. Below are a few suits modeled after EVE Online's T1 / T2 model. All their stats are just placeholders and can be changed!
Militia
The Militia Dropsuits should be cheap and given out as free BPOGÇÖs to new players who choose the appropriate Faction / Specialty during character creation. These suits are like the GÇ£Rookie ShipsGÇ¥ in EVE Online in that they have a limited slot layout, poor health, and low PG / CPU. They come pre-equipped with other free Militia BPOGÇÖs by default. This allows them to be used in the event a player runs out of money as a GÇ£FreeGÇ¥ option but will provide strong incentive to upgrade to Tech 1 as soon as fiscally possible.
Convert - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Amarr Medium Frame skill bonus: 5% bonus to dropsuit armor per level 3% bonus to CPU per level 3% bonus to PG per level

Tech 1
The Tech 1 Dropsuits are generalists that lean towards roles via their skill bonuses while still providing general flexibility. These are like the GÇ£T1 FrigatesGÇ¥ in EVE Online. They have superior HP, PG / CPU and slot layouts to Militia Dropsuits while remaining marginally priced.
- The first (Scholar) is suited for Logistics. Its bonuses favor the repair tool / nanite injector and it trades grenades for additional equipment slots.
- The second (Templar) is suited for close range brawling. Its bonuses increase weapon damage and reduce heat buildup allowing for it to put out some formidable DPS over longer periods.
- The third (Inquisitor) is suited for marksmanship. Its bonuses favor range and accuracy and allow it to support the front line troops with deadly accuracy from farther back.
Scholar - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Amarr Medium Frame skill bonus: 5% bonus to repair tool range per level 5% bonus to nanite injector armor repaired per level

Tech 2
The Tech 2 Dropsuits are very specialized. They are built for a specific role while sacrificing flexibility in all other roles. These are like the GÇ£T2 FrigatesGÇ¥ in EVE Online. They have higher HP, PG / CPU, and slot layouts of the T1 suits and are very expensive.
- The first (Reclaimer) is a specialized Logistics Dropsuit. Its bonuses reinforce armor, HP regen, and provide a solid boost to repair tool efficacy. It has 5 equipment slots allowing it to bring any assortment of equipment to bear. It loses a Light Weapon and Grenades over its T1 counterpart.
- The second (Justicar) is a specialized Assault Dropsuit. Its bonuses reinforce armor, mobility and give a huge bonus to weapon RoF. It loses a Sidearm and Equipment slots over its T1 counterpart.

Alan-Ibn-Xuan Al-Alasabe wrote:A couple people, myself included, have proposed a tiericide with a switch to EVE style tech levels. As far as I know CCP has never responded. So, needless to say, you have my support. At least in principal, I didn't read the stats closely enough to have an opinion on them. Thanks, I just made the stats up. I did put some thought into them but I am sure there are far better stats / bonuses that will work. I just wanted to put something up there concretely so that people could see the general idea. Mainly that in the T1 Medium Frame series there was more than just "Logi" and "Assault" and that, like EVE, there could be multiple suits built for dealing damage "a la Assault" but with different bonuses to give them different flavors (short range brawler, long range marksman, tank).
In a bit I'll post some ideas I had for Scouts, but again most of this is just stuff I thought up that shouldn't be taken as cold hard numbers.

I think that Militia needs 1x suit per frame size, per race. Tech 1 needs a decent amount of suits for each frame size (2x Heavy, 3-4x Medium, 2x Light) per race. And Tech 2 needs 5 types (Sentinel, Logistics, Assault, Covops, Recon).
Again, just like T1 / T2 Frigates in EVE. For T1 there are several per race, they all have the same general role but with different bonuses giving them different playstyles / flavors. For T2 there are only two (Assault Frigates and Interceptors) but they are heavily specialized into their role and each race has a version of each. |

Mossellia Delt wrote:so how in your opinion would this work for scouts? Some other ideas I had for Scouts. Again, these stats aren't final - just the idea of having differing suit bonuses across Tech 1 / Tech 2 lines, and for each race.
Tech 1
The Gallant light dropsuit has a huge bonus to laser weapon range, allowing it to take out enemies from well outside combat range. It's scan precision bonus allows it to locate targets easier.
The Archon light dropsuit is suited for close range combat and provides a sizeable bonus to sidearm damage and a signature profile reduction. It's HP is paper thin, but what it lacks there it makes up in speed and DPS.

Tech 2
The Prophet Recon Dropsuit is adapted from the Gallant and specializes in locating and sharing target location with allies. It gains bonuses for active and passive scanners and the ability to link target location to nearby allies.
The Scion Covert Ops Dropsuit is adapted from the Archon and specializes in stealth infiltration. It's built in cloaking device limits its visible profile considerably, making it almost impossible to see. It's bonuses to movement speed and reload time allow it to take down targets quickly and slip away before help arrives.

XANDER KAG wrote:Sounds good to me, but just a little note, you gave the convert ammar suit 4 slots at the equivalent of militia lvl. Unless the other suits got a boost to slots it wouldn't fit in its own current role, to have slightly more health and to have plenty of CPU/PG to fit what you want in your limited slots.
Even if you were to convince CCP to change them into armor tankers by current standards they would only have 2 lows.
Other than that, this seems like a great idea to me. Yeah, sounds good. Like I said though, the numbers / stats I put shouldn't be the "Set in Stone" ones but more of a guideline that shows how this would be implemented. CCP has done amazing work balancing bonuses for EVE ships, so I expect them to be able to do a pretty good job balancing bonuses for DUST suits in a tiericide model.

Changed thread name to "Buff Assault Suits" because people seem to ignore any title that doesn't have the word "Assault" in it. Plus this idea does actually buff Assault suits in a roundabout way. |

Tell me your Gallente T2 Scout vision, so I may dream. I did them for Amarr further down on page 1. But I would imagine that the sidearm buff would be a shotgun buff for any self respecting Gallente scout. |

Yeah, I remember that one. I liked Kagehoshi's thread, but it sunk into the depths of Feedback / Requests and I wanted to put out some ideas so that people unfamiliar with EVE Online could see how the system could be implemented.
Basically that Tech 1 should be roughly what we have now at Adv level. And Tech 2 would be highly specialized suits that excel at one thing only. Like an T2 Assault suit with a 25% RoF bonus but no equipment or sidearm (so they can dish out some serious pain, but require support to restock ammo, place nanohives, or covering fire while reloading). |
